FEBIC LAC Southern Cone virtual meeting

Grateful memory and challenges of the Biblical Animation of Pastoral Ministry

On 11 and 12 May, the Catholic Biblical Federation of Latin America and the Caribbean – Southern Cone (FEBIC LAC Cono Sur) held a virtual meeting under the theme “Grateful memory and challenges of the Biblical Animation of Pastoral Ministry”.

Go into all the world and proclaim the Good News to the whole creation” (Mk 16:15)

The initiative brought together the extended teams of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay, along with participants from other Latin American countries, including Ecuador, Costa Rica, Peru and Colombia. The meeting was a space of listening, fraternal dialogue, communion and pastoral discernment, aimed at acknowledging the journey travelled and identifying new challenges for the biblical mission in the region.

On the first day, devoted to grateful memory, Sr. Zuleica Silvano (Brazil), Marcelo Correa (Uruguay) and Gerardo García Helder (Argentina) shared testimonies and significant milestones of the Biblical Animation of Pastoral Ministry in the Southern Cone. This look back at the road travelled made it possible to recognize the processes, community experiences and pastoral efforts that have strengthened the presence of the Word of God in the life of the ecclesial communities — not as a mere glance at the past, but as an impulse to continue animating pastoral life from Sacred Scripture.

The second day was dedicated to the current challenges of the Biblical Animation of Pastoral Ministry in today’s social and ecclesial contexts, with presentations by Andreza Ortigoza (Paraguay) and Jaime Michea (Chile). The dialogue highlighted the need to strengthen biblical formation, communion among the teams and the missionary service of the Word, projecting new lines of pastoral action that respond to the signs of the times.

The meeting also received greetings from Sr. María del Socorro Molina, coordinator of FEBIC LAC, from Mexico, who encouraged the participants to continue walking together towards the next FEBIC LAC Assembly, to be held in Bogotá, Colombia, in 2027.

Inspired by the missionary mandate of Jesus, the participants renewed their commitment to a Church animated by the Word. The meeting bore as its fruit a renewed awareness of communion, memory and mission: the Word of God continues to call, enlighten and send the communities out to proclaim the Good News with joy, creativity and hope.
