As a Catholic Biblical Federation
- the CBF is open to the world and works on a world-wide scale
- the CBF is in dialogue with the Roman Catholic Church
- at the level of groups, movements, communities and local institutions
- at the level of dioceses and episcopal conferences
- at the level of the Universal Church
- the CBF is in dialogue with the traditions of the Church
- embracing Church teaching with particular regard to "Divine Revelation" and "The Interpretation of the Bible in the Church"
- embracing theological reflection, especially exegesis
- embracing the sensus fidelium
- embracing the practice of faith, especially the faithful reading and adoption of the Bible in the different ministries of the Church (liturgy, charities [diakonia], catechesis, preaching and fellowship [koinonia]).
As a Catholic Biblical Federation
- the CBF is an advocate for the Bible as a too often overlooked criterion for the life and the faith of the Church and all its members who should not place themselves above the Word but serve it
- the CBF promotes "easy access to Sacred Scripture for all", especially for those who because of lack of formal education and erudition (simple people), because of their status (lay people), their gender (women) or their economical or political situations (the poor and oppressed) for a long time and to some extent even today have not had personal and immediate access to the Bible
- the CBF has a high respect for the richness of the Bible and the variety of reading methods it offers
- the CBF favors in both theory and practice all kinds of Bible reading that take into account life situations and the faith of individuals as well as of communities (lectio divina, Bible reading in context).
As a Catholic Biblical Federation
- the CBF is an independent fellowship of those Church institutions that share its concerns
- the CBF develops structures on the basis of local, diocesan and national institutions (Bishops´ Conferences) that work together according to the principle of subsidiarity at subregional, regional and worldwide levels
- the CBF is a coalition that is shaped by a deep respect for all types of situations, forms of spirituality, theological and practical options
- the CBF provides its members with an organization that gives those who actively commit themselves to its common goals and concerns the possibility of taking part in a structured team undertaking moving in the same direction
- the CBF sees itself not as a structure nor an executive body for centralized decision-making but rather as a network that develops and realizes its projects through a process of dialogue and participation.
